| Today, the seaweed industry's main products are the alginates and carraghenanes. The industrial network faces many problems. However, it remains prosperous since it ranks fifth in the world for alginate production and third for caraghenanes'. This stability which seems safe on a middle term standpoint must not conceal the crisis which previously hit Fucus' exploitation. Rightly so, being harvested until approximately 1950 for soil amendment purposes, coastal kelp (i.e. Fucus), was replaced by chemical fertilizers. Brittany's production which was reaching 180 000 cubic metre in the twenties, close to 200 000 tons of fresh kelp, would have become non existent if it had not been converted into seaweed meal for livestock feed. | This papers aims at understanding the strategies of fishers operating two fisheries which are biologically independent but economically interrelated. The case studied is that of the fishers who dredge scallops, queens and clams in the bay of Brest during winter, and harvest the Laminaria digitata field in the open sea, north-west of Brest in summer. Taking this peculiarity into account, the paper makes a distinction between different strategies, which enable fishers to adapt to a changing environment (abundance variation but also economic and institutional shifts) during recent years. | The growth of the scallop ( Pecten maximus L.) has been studied in several stocks along the french coast . The growth in height has been first described by the Von Bertalanffy growth curve, and the paramete rs (especially K and Loo) compared between the different stocks. An attempt has been made to study local (inside a stock) spatial heterogeneities, as well as variations from year to year. Finally a modification of the Von Bertalanffy growth curve is suggested, whick takes into account seasonnal variations in the growth rate. |

| La forêt de Laminaires des côtes bretonnes est un élément important de l'environnement littoral. La biologie des principales espèces qui la compose est bien connue. On note une adaptation aux difficiles conditions de milieu. Le fonctionnement de la reproduction vise à une occupation puissante des fonds, la croissance peut s'adapter aux conditions de densité sur les fonds. Elle est ralentie en situation de forte colonisation du milieu. L'acquisition de la maturité sexuelle obéit au mêmes lois. Elle est plus précoce sur les champs éclaircis du fait de l'accélération de la croissance. La durée de vie des algues est brève et ne dépasse pas 5 années. Bien que l'on ne dispose pas d'une estimation précise des populations, on en connaît toutefois leur évolution... |

| It is attempted to produce large quantities of 25 mm scallop juveniles suitable for restocking the beds. A first breeding experiment in laboratory gave a very low survival rate : about 1% from the D larvae stage to reach the size of 1 mm. The growth after metamorphosis is very irregular and slow, compared to the datas obtained in natural environment. An experimental programme of spat collection in natural environment, completed by hanging culture has been conducted. An average number of 300 spats (size 15 mm) per collector has been obtained in 1976. Banging culture allows to reach the size of 25 mm three months after settlement with a very good survival rate. | Photosynthetic activity in thalli of Laminaria saccharina (Lamouroux) was followed in situ in the upper subtidal zone of a Northern Brittany rocky shore (Roscoff, France), using a submersible pulse amplitude modulated (PAM) fluorometer. Two fluorescence parameters, the effective quantum yield of photosystem II (Phi(PSII)) and the relative electron transport rate (rETR), were estimated at various stages of a tidal cycle from 10:00 to 18:30 h, and different light conditions due to variations of water depth and position of the sun. The Phi(PSII) decreased strongly during the ebb tide, essentially due to a drop in the maximal fluorescence level for light-adapted samples (F-m').
